Items Move or Disappear Completely

I've been experiencing this fun new bug where items on my pages randomly move to another part of the page. Today, this evolved into the items completely disappearing.

I'm working on a 37 page document. Everything is updated to the most recent version, and my computer specs meet or exceed all adobe requirements.

Based on my research, this has been an issue for years and Adobe is not addressing it. Am I doomed to redundancy until this is fixed? Or does anyone have a clue why else this might be happening?

In addition to Steve's excellent advice, have you investigated Text Wrap being turned on and applied to some frame on the layout? Text Wrap pushes objects around. Is Text Wrap accidentally turned on as you make new frame objects?

Thank you for that insight Mike, I would not have thought about that! I don't recall using text wrap at any point in this document, but I will certainly inspect further. Is there a way to identify objects that have text wrap attributes?

It's not been happening to me and I've been teaching and using InDesign since version 1.0.

It it's only your 37-page document, it's quite likely that there is corruption in the document. Try saving it as an IDML file. Choose File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]. Try opening the IDML file in InDesign. No guarantees that this will work but often it can.

If it happen to more than one document, the first thing to try is restoring your InDesign preferences and caches. Here's how:

Thank you for the expert advice, Steve! I will give this a go. Curious if you have any ideas as to why files become corrupt, and how to prevent it?
