Keeping Facing Pages Together

We are designing a book of several hundred pages and there are a number of documents which contain two pages whereby the two pages need to end up facing each other in the final PDF of the book.  Currently, my only attempt to keep them together is a sticky note on my desk reminding me to make sure that the first page of these pairs all need to have an even page number and not an odd number.  Is there not a way to force InDesign to keep them facing each other and then, perhaps, flash some sort of a warning if there is a conflict in terms of the pagination requiring a blank page before or some adjustment in the page order?  The "Allow ... pages to shuffle" commands don't seem to effect how the pages are treated within the Book itself.  Any advice would be much appreciated!

    There is. Select one of the pages of the spread, then click on the panel menu in the Pages panel and uncheck "Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle".

    Hi Chad,

    Thanks for your post.  Unchecking "Allow Spread to Shuffle" keeps them together within a document but not within a book, or so it seems to me.  Even after unchecking this selection, the automated pagination functions within the book dialog continue to split the pages whenever all the previous pages put the first page into being an odd page number.  To clarify, these two-page spreads are poems and artwork for which we want them to land on left-to-right (facing) pages and not front-to-back pages.  So, my question wasn't about maintaining facing pages within a document but rather within a book.  Does this make more sense?

    In that case, can't you use the Book Page Numbering Options found in the Book panel menu to force each document to begin on an even page?
