Question

Keyboard shortcuts and keystrokes stops working

Hello

Since around three days I have a serious problem with InDesign. The problem is with the keyboard shortcuts or even single keystrokes - they simply are not working.

Let me describe it: I am opening existing file/creating new one, I do work as usual, and after some time or after switching few times between files, Indesign does not respond to any keystroke that is function-related. I can type as usual, but for example if I want to remove any element bu pressing DEL key, nothing happens. Any ofther shortcut like CTRL+C / CTRL+V, undo function etc. is not working as well. All I can do then is go to the workspace list, and from the drop-down menu I need to select my existing profile. Then it starts working again, but as before - only for some time.

I've  already:

- removed preferences

- reinstalled software

- removed files manually from a ahard drive

Nothing seems to help. Problem keeps returning.

Does anyone of you ever experienced such issue, and could help me out?

I am on Win10, Indesign is 14.0.1

I am having this same problem, on Mac OS 10.14, InDesign 14.0.1.

I have tried

• edit => keyboard shortcuts => switch back and forth between default and other sets

• reset all INDD preferences

• completely uninstall/reinstall software

• restart computer and reset PRAM

Nothing works to fix it.

For me, not every keyboard shortcut stopped working -- cmd-C to copy / cmd-V to paste still work. But spacebar to temporarily select hand tool, shift to constrain dragging to 90 degrees, option-drag to copy element, and many other shortcuts for moving around in the layout are not working.

I am having same issue as sarahs86636213, same versions of Mac OS and INDD. Was all working yesterday (Mar 18), not today. Have not tried same steps as above, but will wait to see if Adobe addresses. I can cut and paste, so can hobble along until fix or update psoted.

Hi there,

We’re so sorry to hear about this. This is definitely not a usual behavior. As you have already tried resetting preferences and reinstall InDesign. The only thing which I would suggest is to check how it works on the Hidden Admin Account(How to enable the hidden Windows 10 administrator account - gHacks Tech News ). If it works fine there then we need to repair permissions on your account by following these steps:

  • Close all the running applications.
  • Go to location
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  • Right Click InDesign Folder > Properties > Security > Edit
  • If you see your username there, allow Full Control and click OK
  • If you don't see your user account Click "Add" and Add your username and Click "OK"

Note: This will take some time to apply permissions to all the contents of the folder. It might ask you to continue or not click "Continue"

  • Once done got to this location C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Adobe and follow the same steps

Let us know if this helps if not, please contact us at Contact Customer Care for a live troubleshooting session.

Regards,

Srishti

No, the setting were correct and the app has all rights to the folders.

I've noticed that switching to another app and going back to indesign (alt+tab twice) resolves the problem as well.

Hi Tintart ,

I see that as well with my German InDesign CC 2019 14.0.1.209 on Windows 10. Known issue, I'd say.

What I do to resolve this: I click one time in the empty gray area after InDesign has started; I'm using a custom workspace.

FWIW: You could test the new bugfix version of InDesign one can download from Prerelease and test if the issue is resolved.

Regards,
Uwe
