Question

Large separation commas when generating index in inDesign

inDesign cc v 18.4

Whenever I generate an index, the commas that separate the page numbers come in as 60 pt with a -31 pt baseline shift (see screenshot). I have googled for answers, updated software and reset preferences. Nothing seems to help. I fix the index using a GREP search/replace but if I ever have to regenerate the index the BIG MISPLACED "," makes me have to go through it all again. Is there a bug or is it something I am doing wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Frank,

can you please share the index pages of your documents?

Examine the generated text, cursor step by step, looking at both the paragraph style and the character style. I'd suspect there's a forgotten style somewhere that is applying wherever an override or designated style isn't. Watch for override changes as well (+ on the style name). That should pinpoint where the giganta-commas are coming from.
