Latest InDesign update - Export to PDF failed

I export to PDF our local newspaper for printing and digital publishing, which has worked perfectly fine until the most recent InDesign update (18.2). It fails every time on every computer in the office that has the latest version installed. We have worked out that it has something to do with the update because I have reverted back to a previous version (18.1), and it's exporting fine. Exporting a single page to PDF is fine. It's the larger documents (64 pages/52MB) we having problems with. Print to PDF works fine, but it has colour issues when printing and the hyperlinks aren't saved for digital use. I use InDesign every day to produce our local newspaper and other client work. Until the issue is fixed I will stick with version 18.1, but I do like to keep my Adobe products up to date.

We have Windows 10 installed on our PC's

Hi, @crayt17396241 ,

some others have an PDF issue because of running in the background.

So maybe this helps Stopping background tasks in InDesign .

My team is having the same problems. We checked for type 1 fonts. We tried rolling back to 18.1. Error message: "1 problem was found with a background task". Should we disable background tasks?

Try and see if it helps - you can always undo it.

If I remember correctly - the problem is when you place INDD file into your finall INDD file and then try to export PDF ?

If it's your case - try to fist export PDF and place it instead of INDD.

We have always placed INDD files into our INDD working document without issue. Our document is for our local newspaper and several people work on it and are editors so having the main document update all the edits is what we need. In saying that reverting back to a previous version of InDesign fixed the issue (momentarily) (like for a couple of months). We are having the issue again 😞 Any suggestions?

There was a problem - after an update - that if you have INDD file placed inside INDD file - PDF export would fail - supposed to be fixed.

Placing PDF instead of INDD is just a bit of inconvenience / extra step in your workflow.

There is a known issue in 18.2 which causes this if you placed InDesign files that utilize Type 1 fonts into the layout. Adobe is aware of it and the 18.2 rollout has been paused while they test a new build.

That said, if you indeed are using Type 1 fonts anywhere you really need to revisit that immediately as support has ended for them and you will not be able to use them going forward.

Thank you for your reply.

I have checked the document, and there are no Type 1 fonts.

Would there be another reason?
