Layer Visibilities Issues

Hello,

I have been having this recent issue with PSD files linked to my InDesign not honoring the object layer visbility settings set in ID. I have the file set to [When Updating Link] "Keep Layer Visibility." In addition, I have the document set in the [Preferences] > [File Handling] > "Hide New Layers When Updating or Relinking" selected.

Despite these settings, when I relink the file, it reverts the image to the visibilty of the PSD at the time.

Thanks,

Gi

In Photoshop you have to save Layer Comps with different Layer visibilities and Positions.

In InDesign choose one of these Layer Comps and InDesign will honor in the future any changes.

Selecting only Layers will end up in change Layers if you make changes in Photoshiop as you have experienced.

Use Layer Comps in Photoshop: Menu > Window > Layer Comps

Select Layer Comps when you place PSDs in InDesign: File > Place …; Show Import Options, Layer Panel, select Layer Comps.

Ok great, thank you - I am following your suggestion and created layer comps in PSD, but when I load the PSD file in ID, the Layer Comps option is greyed out. Any idea what this could be?

When you place a file saved with Layer Comps the option is available. It might not work if you want to update an existing link.
