Layout split view doesn't work anymore

This morning, InDesign was updated (version 21.6), and the split-view layout no longer works—or rather, it works only partially: the open document remains visible only on the left side, while the right side of the window is blank. I checked the zoom and page alignment, but nothing is visible.

    Could you please provide the following information to help us investigate the issue?

    • Which version of InDesign are you using?
    • Did you also experience this issue with InDesign v21.5.1?
    • Video recording of the issue?
    • Is(Are) the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If yes, could you provide the document(s)/asset(s) to us? Please package the entire document (To package the document, choose File → Package…)
    • Please try the latest InDesign v22.0.0 available in BETA and Prerelease and confirm whether the issue still occurs there as well.
    • Display adapters in Device Manager (Ensure that the display cable is connected to the GPU port on machines with dual display ports for proper rendering)
    • Display settings (To access the GPU feature on Windows, the monitor should have a resolution above 2K.)
    • Share the IDSniffer file available at %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 21.0\en_US\Caches\GPULog\IDSniffer and check for the below values:
      • <OGLVersion></OGLVersion>
      • <NumDisplays></NumDisplays>
      • <NumDrivers></NumDrivers>
      • <Driver>
      • </Driver>

      I had the same problem on windows today. When I selected the empty window and pressing Ctrl + A, the design appeared from nothing. Maybe this quick workaround works for you to.

      Hi @defaultw7xmrgd5v7gk, thanks for sharing the workaround. I tried it at my end, but it didn't work for me.

      We have shared the details with the product team and logged a bug.

      Meanwhile, as a workaround, you can switch to CPU preview by going to the View menu and selecting Preview on CPU.

      So I tried it again because I thought placing or selecting objects have some effect.

      When placing objects in the 2nd view the pages seem to appear, see recording.

        Did you do the basic troubleshooting or deleting cache and preferences? If so and still you see and issue then can you post some screenshots of the problem and also let us know the OS as well.

        I’m working on Windows 11. I have already tried the basic troubleshooting steps, including deleting the cache and preferences. I even uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign, but the issue still persists.
