Legacy locked subayer with no object name appearing is not editable and can't delete

I have a sublayer from a previous version of my layout (not on a master page) that is locked. I can't delete the layer or unlock it. It's nto appearing in my InDesign file, yet it appears when I export it as a PDF. I just need it gone - but since I can't even select the image, my hands are tied and I'm releasing files to the printer today. Help please.

Thank you! I am not exactly sure how I solved this issue - but after crashing several times when trying to delete or unlock the layer in InDesign, I opened a previous version of my layout, and when I did that, my locked/mystery layer disappered in my current version.

Great! Glad you are back on track. And thank goodness for incremental backups. More people need to understand how important they are.

    Hi MMLMarie:

I am trying to understand the question. There is a sublayer in the PDF that does not have a corresponding sublayer in the InDesign file, so you must tackle this in Adobe Acrobat?

Acrobat doesn't allow you to delete a layer, but you can hide it, or if you right+click the layer > Properties can designate it as Never Visible, Never Prints, Never Exports. Does that help?

If not, I'd say to treat the InDesign file as damaged, and see if saving it as an IDML, closing, reopening the IDML and then saving as a new InDesign straightens it out—either removing the sublayer or allowing you to access it in InDesign.

Keep in mind that the sublayers only appear in the Layers panel on the page where the content appears, so be sure to check every single page—body and master—when looking for the sublayer.
