Question

Linestyles/Stroke Styles to mimic Architectural Plan Set

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to create a linestyle/stroke style to mimic those of architectural/civil plans. Looking for something like the ones circled below. A dash, gap, letter, gap stroke style would be great or a dash, gap, circle, gap.

Thank you!

Michelle

This could be built as custom pattern brushes in Illustrator. Maybe your project should switch to Illustrator?

Thanks Mike. It half fixes my issue going into Illustrator. With the Brushes I don't have the same control as I do with the pen tool. Typically I am doing drawing these lines with pretty distinct angles. Holding shift on the brush allows me to create a straight line but it doesn't allow me to then change 90 degrees and continue that brush stroke in another direction again with a straight line. I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I have done a ton of work in illustrator. The other thing I like about the stroke styles is being able to change how the spacing adapts at the corners indvidually and not all the stroke types.

You could try placing different line styles as overlays - fencing should be doable.

The ones with text - "type on path" should work.

I will have to test this out. Thank you for the suggestion.

It was the best way to do roads back in the day in CorelDRAW - black, a bit wider line, with white, slightly narrower white line on top - easiest way to get perfect junctions.

There are no equivalent line styles, nor, to the best of my knowledge, any way to add user-defined ones. It's just possible some of these could be scripted, but I think a full, coded plug-in of some kind would be needed for any useful, usable version of such a feature.

(I do occasionally do simple technical drawings in ID, so I sympathize with your request!)

Agreed, we sometimes do very early site logistics in InDesign. Would love more flexibility over the strokes.
