Linked images glitching in 'High quality display' mode. Can you help?

I get that you like to see the image. But on complex documents with lots of images I tend to use Typcical Display. And trust the image you have placed. You can always go to Object settings and the set the view there for the specific image if you want to inspect it in situ. I find working in Typical Display Mode with the CPU preview (GPU view off) - that InDesign is a lot more responsive. 

I trust the images and placement - and turn on the Object display settings instead of all the images.

In High Quality mode, InDesign redraws the previews for the images from the files, so they need to be accessible. If you’ve done an OS update recently, check that Apple hasn’t reset your File Access preferences under your Mac’s Privacy & Security. Files on external drives and network shares need Full Disk Access enabled for your Adobe apps. If your Adobe Apps AREN’T listed, add them.

It may be a screen redrawing issue have you tried it with the GPU turned off?
You can see if it’s compatible under the Help menu.

To test it try saving it as a JPG,  can you then view it correctly (say) in a. browser?
