Question

Linking text in another file

Hi friends!

I used to know how to do this but have forgotten 😞

I have one file which is entirely just threaded text frames.

I am continuously polishing the text in this file.

I re-use the text in this file in some other files. sometimes all of it and sometimes on part of it.

I want to do all the polishing/corrections in one central place and have all "the children" files reflect the updates.

So in the "children" files, I guess I want to link a text frame to the test in the parent file sometimes to all of it sometimes only to part of it.

Thank you all very much

Susan

It's not going to work with threaded frames. That's an all-or-nothing solution.

If you can split them up, you can use InCopy stories and link those.

I think you may want Edit > Place and Link.

Thank you for the reply. But I don't think this is precisely what I need.

I have file1. Which has threaded text frames on three pages. I have ANOTHER file (file2) with a text box getting its content from the text frame in File1 pg 1, I have a third file (file3) which is getting its text from the textframe from of File1 page 3.

ANy changes made to the textframes in file1 are expressed in file2 and file3.

I understand this is done via links but paste and link doesn't ask me where to take the content from???

Thank You

Susan
