Links Panel Overflow

Ever since we moved to InDesign 2024, we've noticed that the Links Panel will often overflow with linked assets and cause the panel to become unusable.

To reproduce this, you first must have a lot of unique links in your document.
Open the document and select one of the assets on the page, such as an image. The links panel will try to highlight the link, but it will get jumbled up and overflow with other links in the document.

I have attached a screenshot of what we're getting.

Platform: Mac
OS: macOS Sonoma 14.4

Indesign Version: 19.3

Troubleshooting steps taken so far:

Reinstalled InDesign 2024.
Reset InDesign's preferences.
Switched to a default workspace rather than a custom workspace.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

Thanks

No! That's not good. Two questions:

  1. How exactly did you reset preferences? Just the keyboard-on-launch technique or did you go all the way into the hidden folders to rebuild cache/preferences? If the former, see https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-indesign-rebuilding-preferences-cache/.
  2. Did you report this to the Adobe team using https://indesign.uservoice.com? This is the user-to-user forum—we are users like you. We can offer advice and explain features, but if there's a problem with the software, Adobe needs to handle that.

I also have had this problem for the past year over several versions of Indesign. Links panel overflows info panel and becomes unusable. Reset preferences and change workspaces did not fix.
MacOS 15.6.1
Indesign 20.5

Hi @peter_2628,

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you confirm if the issue is consistent across all files and reproducible on demand? It would also help if you could try renaming the CEP and UXP folders and let us know if that makes a difference. To do this, rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from /Library/Application Support/Adobe. If the issue still occurs, try renaming the UXP folder to UXP.old from /Library/Application Support/Adobe and ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe.

Looking forward to your update.

Hello @leeann_1919,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Could you share more details, like the version of the OS/InDesign installed, a link to a sample file, and screenshots/a small screen recording of the problem, so I can check it with the team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have been getting this as well for the past 2 weeks. I work in publishing, I have hundreds of links in some of my documents. It has made InDesign practically un-useable. Did anyone have a work around? I have also left a report on uservoice. Help

We have removed prefs via the user's hidden Library folder. Specifically /Users/user/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/. I will also send a report to user voice. Thank you for the help.

Try to specifically remove caches as @Barb Binder already mentioned:
