Links Panel > Show/Hide Link Information Not Working

I’ve had this issue on Windows and Mac where the Links panel > Show/Hide Information doesn’t work. When I open an InDesign file, the panel shows the Link Info. However, if I need more space to see other panels, I click the Link Info ˅ to collapse the panel. That part works. What doesn’t work is trying to relaunch it. I click the Link Info and nothing happens. I have to close InDesign and open it back up. This happens from the time I install the Adobe apps, so I don’t see this as being a Preferences issue. It’s been a problem for many years. Anyone know of a workaround?

    Hi @Chris Panny,

I hope the suggestions shared by the experts helped resolve the Links panel behavior. If not, please update the thread so we can assist accordingly. If possible, please also share a short screen recording showing the exact workflow so I can investigate this further on my end.

    Looking forward to your update.

The problem persists. I’ve reset the preferences. I’ve never been able to figure this out on either my Windows or Mac. It’s not the end of the world but thanks everyone for your suggestions.

    Hi @Chris Panny,

Thanks for the update. I understand how frustrating it must be to see this behavior across multiple systems.

I tested this on my end in InDesign 21.4 and wasn't able to reproduce it. The Link Information section in the Links panel collapses and expands normally for me.

Could you please share a short screen recording showing the Links panel before collapsing the Link Information section, the click used to collapse it, the attempt to re-expand it, and whether the panel is docked or floating? Also, please confirm whether this happens in a brand-new document, in the default Essentials workspace, and in InDesign 21.4.

If you're still seeing the issue, please try renaming the CEP folder to CEP.old from the following location:

    MAC: /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

If that does not help, please rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from the following locations:

    MAC: /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    MAC: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\
    Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

Please let me know how it goes. I'll be happy to investigate further based on your observations.

    Best,
    Abhishek

Could easily be a preference issue. I’d try trashing them before anything else since this is typically how preference issues show themselves...wonky panels.

InDesign interface problems often signal a cache reset is needed. This is part of the 4 ways you can reset InDesign. Read about this reset procedure in more detail here:

I just tested it on my Windows system. (Didn’t bother with my Mac.)

It’s working properly for me. What are your exact system and InDesign versions?

V 21.3 updated 10 days ago. Windows 11 version 25 H2 (OS build 26200.8246). This has been a problem for years for me.
