List of Character font styles not associated with the font

Hi,

Working with paragraphy and character styles. Lets say my paragraph style font is Gotham and I am adding a character style but want only one or two words to be italic Indesign is providing a list of options not associated to the font.

As @Peter Spier says, all your font variations are listed.

If you want to isolate only those weights available with a particular font, then select that font in the Font Family drop down.

 

But usually when making a Character Style, you don't want "italics" to work only for one font family, such as Gotham, but rather for any font family that's used in the INDD layout file. So that's why the Character Styles panel was designed to do that.

Not exactly sure what your question is here. That exhaustive list of styles is a comprehensive listing of all the font weights and style combinations you might find, not necessarily in every font.
