Thank you all for replying, I solved my problem. I'm on Windows 11, so what i did was uncheck some startup programs and I discovered that Steam was the culprit, so to the other poeple with same problem, just uncheck Steam in Startup apps and your problems are over

In addition, do you have the pilcrow at the end of the paragraph selected?

It sounds like the Clipboard Handling preference is set to Paste Text Only rather than to preserve formatting.

Whatever I try, my copied and pasted text from the same document loses it's formatting, I'm on Windows 11, indesign 17.1 so I'm wondering if other people have the same problem?

Thanks

Do you work with Paragraph and Character Styles?

Do you paste with or without style?

Copying from where to InDesign? I have found formatting only works when copying between InDesign documents. When I paste from Pages or the web all formatting is lost, and I’m usually fine with that.

Things get complicated when copying from one InDesign document to another if the text uses paragraph styles that have the same name in both documents but different formats. This hapens if you use and alter the definition of the Basic Paragraph Style that is in every InDesign document. For this reason I have a few unbreakable rules:

  1. Never use Basic Paragraph style.
  2. Never base another style on Basic Paragraph.
  3. Never alter Basic Paragraph.

Hi Scott,

Copying from the very same document, an example.... a subtitle should be copied to another placve in the text... well it loses formatted subtitle style..... this is windows 11 indesign 17. on my old mac I don't have this problem, whatever formatted text I copy, it stays formatted

Scott, thanks for replying so fast
