Question

Making stroke lines the same for product catalog

I'm making a product catalog with modling profiles, and the profile shapes have thin gray strokes for measuring. The end of the strokes are all different, some shorter, some longer. My goal is to make them all the same so they are extened 0.25 inches from the shape. You'll see what I mean if you look at the attachment that shows a before and after comparison.

What I've been doing is dragging the end point of each stroke to a guide. This is very time-consuming since there  are hundreds of these shapes that have these lines. Is there a way in InDesign (or Illustrator), or using AI somehow where I can get these lines to be 0.25 inches away from the shape instead of doing it manully by dragging each point of each line?

Thank you,

Chris, Graphic Designer

I've written for a client years ago such a Script for drawings made in InDesign.

Original Document:

Select the drawing 1 …

… and play the Script:

Select the drawing 2 …

… and play the Script again:

If one drawing per page, you could play all the game … with just 1 click!  😉

Hi, The Jedi,

Thank you for replying to my post so quickly. How much do you want for the script that you created? I'm thinking your script is going to save me so much time and make what I'm doing so much easier.

Also, 0.25 inches was a incorrect. I want the end points of each gray line to be 0.125 inches away form the shape edge. Is it possible to make the script do that, and again, how much money do you want for the script?

I'm really hoping your script will work for my project.

Thank you!!!

Chris

Just a value to be changed in a code line!

Could you post here some samples (InDesign file saved in .idml)? Just for test (and eventually update of my script for your needs).
