Making text align between columns and sit properly on the blue lines

I used to be able to do some sort of quick click and make text align between and set properly on the blue lines in each of my two columns.

Now I do not remember how I did it! Another beginner question!

Correct answer Steve Werner

Assuming you have (1) properly set up Preferences > Grids > Baseline Grid, and (2) selected the text, you click this icon in Paragraph Formatting Controls on the Control Panel:

You can also select this for Paragraph Styles in Indents and Space > Align Grid

Haha. Derek is quick! He's also correct on your first line tabs—you can pull them out with a find/change. Defining a first line indent is a better option and is done in the same dialog box we both showed you.

I also spot double spaces after each full stop. Want to address that as well?

Thanks - I got it.

I found it this way: type>paragraph (if paragraph is not visible)

T for type tool

click insertion point

Edit>Select All

Click on Align to Base (an image of 2 columns lining up nicely)

By the way, it would really help your productivity and the quality of your work if you leant to use Paragraph (and Character) Styles.
