Question

Margins

Lately when I open a doc and try to change the margins, the margins don't actually adjust in the file. I think this is a recent problem since I upgraded to the lates ID. Anyone else having this problem?

What is your operating system (Mac or Windows) and what version, including updates, is it?

Did you change the margins on the master/parent?

Have you turned on layout adjustment?

Where else die you change the margins?

Hi @riziharris, can you confirm that you've tried all these ways to change your document's margins without success?

When you first set up a document, you can indicate your margins or use the default setting in the New Document panel:

After that, you can change margins from any Parent page under Layout > Margins and Columns:

Or through File > Document Setup:

If none of these methods work, uninstall and reinstall InDesign to see if that fixes the problem, or revert to a previous version where it was working for you.

Also, be sure to always save new documents with a file name right away, and don't use the default “Untiled-1” file name. As fundamental as that seems, I've found that sometimes a new document won't respond correctly until it's uniquely saved to my local system. Let us know how it goes!

These visuals were super helpful. I guess they changed the interface for this version. Thank you!

Hi @riziharris,

Thanks for reaching out! To help troubleshoot, could you please confirm the version of InDesign you're using (is it 20.0?) and the details of your operating system?

Also, is this issue happening with all your files or just a specific one? If possible, could you share a screen recording demonstrating the issue? This will help us better understand what's going on.

Looking forward to your response!

Best,

I would consider backing down to 2024 until 2025 has a few bug fixes. Not saying that is your issue but the combination of the September release of the macOS and the October release of in design creating a lot of issues In the community posts.
