Master Pages + Layers

I have a master page with a header on it (ie: FOR YOUR HEALTH).

I have layers with different headers on them (ie: FOR YOUR TABLE; FOR YOUR HOME: FOR YOUR PET).

When I click on a different layer than what the master page was set up with, it won't change the master page. It only changes the regular pages. Is there a way to use layers to change the master pages?

Of course! This feature pulls content off the page into the running heads by specifying a style, and works with threaded stories.

Running Header (Paragraph or Character Style)

The Running Header variables insert the first or last occurrence on the page of the text to which the specified style is applied. If no text on the page is formatted with the specified style, the text from a previous page is used.

Hi @brendas88120519:

So you're trying to change the running head to one of three different choices on the body pages?

Traditionally, you do that by creating multiple parent pages (previously called master pages) and assigning the correct parent page to the body pages. So if you have three header possibilities, you might have three parent pages.

Alternatively, you can use the running header for the variable, if that content actually appears on the body pages, which is more advanced but also more efficient.

Barb, can you point me a resource on how to do that variable? I would love to have a running variable throughout all my master pages on all my parents pages that is a feature I have been waiting for quite a while next.
