Menu misalignment in InDesign

Hello everyone. Sometimes, after several hours of work, the InDesign menus get completely misaligned! For example, right now when I click "Save As," the "Print Booklet" window opens instead. It’s a real hassle—everything is off! Thanks for your help, and have a great day. Olivier

What version of InDesign and what OS?

I’ve had that happen a while ago when connecting or disconnecting a monitor, or when changing the screen resolution (on a laptop to connect to a projector).

In regard to your concern about losing your settings by resetting preferences. May I suggest the following to prevent this concern in the future: After you’ve customized the program to your liking following the reset you might want to make a copy of your now pristine InDesign preference folder for future use (make sure that you do all of the setting up with no document open and then quit the program to assure that the new preferences will be firmly set). Keeping a copy of preferences assures you that if InDesign corrupts in any way in the future you can simply swap out your good preference folder for the corrupt one with a minimum of fuss. Your InDesign preference folder can be found at the following locations:

    For Macintosh users:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign”. Save a copy of this file for future use.

    For Windows Users:

The preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then find the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign. Save a copy of this file for future use.

Hi @absinthe77176, thanks for reaching out! This is really weird behavior.

Please let us know the version of InDesign you're using, along with your computer's operating system.

You can start by resetting the preferences of InDesign using the steps suggested here: https://adobe.ly/4z5Drhf

    Thanks,

Thanks for the info! Please try resetting the preferences as suggested earlier.

If you continue to experience the same behavior, please share a small video recording so that we can investigate things further.

    Thanks,

    Nikunj
