Question

Minimized windows won't stay minimized

Hi all!  Please help.

This has been bugging me for a while, but now to the point i'm going crazy.  If I have an InDesign document minimized, and I open a new document, the minimized window flys open and puts itself in front of the file I just opened. Which then I need to minimize it again. Photoshop doesn't do this.  Nor does Illustrator. Just InDesign.

I don't like the application frame being open because of the background, so don't have that selected, and I don't open the documents in tabs.  I like everything floating.  I've never had this issue in older versions.  I think it started last year or so.

Please tell me there is a simple solution to fixing this that I am not seeing!  Make the minimized documents stay minimized!  lol.

Yes, I can confirm it. 

 

Minimized windows become "unminimized" and return to InDesign once another document is opened in InDesign.

 

Definitely a bug.

 

I never minimize InDesign windows so I'm never affected by this (I do use tabs but not the application frame).

Hey DG

I've never seen that happen. It might suggest a reset of preferences but that is a guess.

Since you practice some old-school, have you experimented with rebooting?
Are you open to some keyboard shortcuts like Cmd+~ to quickly switch between open ID documents? What is your OS version and ID version?

Hi @Dezignguy81,

 

I tried reproducing the issue, but my new file opens separately without bringing up the minimized document. Could you share your InDesign version and macOS details? Also, if possible, please provide a screen recording showing your workflow.

Additionally, could you try testing this in a new administrator user account to check if the issue persists? Here's a reference guide: Create a new user account on Mac.

InDesign version 20.2
Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1

I created another admin account and it did the same thing!  lol.
