Missing gradient when exporting as PDF from InDesign

Hello! I'm having an issue where when I export an indesign file as a PDF for print, the resulting PDF does not contain all of the gradients I used when creating the document. I'm attaching a screenshot of the PDF with the missing gradient on the top of the imagery, and a screenshot of what I see from my indesign file.

How are you viewing the PDF?

Hi Bob,

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to view the PDF.

How did you export? What were the settings? I might expect this if you flattened the PDF by using X1-a. If so, try X-4.

Hi Celia,

when in InDesign just change the view to Separation Preview, hover your cursor over the field where you export the "gray" area and meter the CMYK values. What are the values? 100 % Black and 0 % Cyan, Magenta and Yellow?

Uwe

HI Laubender,

I looked, and the values were 100 % Black, and 0% for Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

Then it's clear. You have to give the "Gray" area the same black as it is in the image.

Best is to mirror the image at its upper edge and use the mirrored duplicate as background.

You could scale the dup non-proportional so that the mirrored area of black is sufficient for your case.
