Missing Story function in InDesgin 18

My Story option is missing in InDesign. The menu just shows up empty.

If trashing the preferences does not work then rebuild the InDesign cache, UI issues are generally resolved by it.

I do have text box selected. I have selected specific text. I have selected the box alone. I have tried making sure to have the text tool selected. I have tried with selection tool active, and the direct selection tool active. Nothing. It was working and this week noticed it was gone. I have re-loaded the menus. Still not showing up. And it seems to be only thing affected.

The Story panel has only one feature. It lets you adjust the margins of text on a single text frame so they optimize the appearance of text on the left or right side.

 

To see anything, you have to have a single text frame selected (or an insertion point in such a frame) like shown below:
