Move to back/front ignoring layer arrangement.

Is there a way to override layer arrangement when pushing objects to front/back?

I have a layer system like Photographs/Graphics/Text/Geometry. I have some photos that should be above geometry, i have geometry that should be above photos, and other similar arrangements. But I want to keep the objects in their according layer without making multiple layers like "photos above" "photos below" etc.

Would just be easy to arrange objects freely.
