Multi-level list problem at level 3

Question

I'm attempting to create a list like this:

1 Level 1

1.1 Level 2

1.2 Level 2

1.3 Level 2

2 Level 1

2.1 Level 2

2.1.1 Level 3

2.1.2 Level 3

2.1.3 Level 3

However, this is happening:

Whatever I try, level 3 restarts at 1, so for example I get 1.1.1 instead of 2.2.1.

I'm using three numbered list paragraph styles as follows:

Level 1:

Level 2:

Level 3:

I'm utterly confused why this isn't working.

Can anyone suggest what's going wrong?

Your third screenshot shows that your Level 3 points to a *different* list. Make it the same list as the other two (in your case, choose Level 2 - Multi-level.)

When you make a different custom named LIST, you are instructing InDesign to number differently and independently of your current list pattern.

Hi all! I know this post is old but I'm hoping someone can let me know how to fix the issue I'm having. So currently, I have the same bullet structure as what's listed above, and my screenshots match as well, and my bullets are part of the same list "multi-list." The only difference is, I started my bullets at level 2...so my first level is not 1., it starts at 1.1. In my example below, I'm going to jump to the 3 because that's where I started running into issues.

3.1 - Level 1

3.2- Level 2

3.2.1 - Level 3.

This was working great until I got to a section where the intro is 3.1, and the next number following is 3.1.1 Does anyone know how to set it up so it goes from 3.1 to 3.1.1 ? I'm assuming it's because I'm trying to jump from level one to level 3 with the bullets?
