Multiple Colors in Current Page Number

I'm trying to create this effect using paragraph styles and the current page number marker, but I can't figure out how to do that—if it's possible. I tried nesting a character style for the different color, but it changed both digits. I was able to create the overlap using tracking, but it puts the second number on top, and we want the first number on top. Would love to automate this rather than have to do it manually, as this is a project that many people will be working on, and I can just envision the inconsistency that will arise.

That is not possible, except perhaps with scripting. The current page number character is one character so it can only be formatted in one style. GREP and Nested Styles cannot separate the digits and format them differently. I’m not even sure there is a way to convert the page number to text (as you can with a variable).

It is possible to use two different cahracters. The first woule be the section name, the second the page number. You would name each section 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. and make sure a new section started every ten pages.

… pages 20-24, Just For Fun!

Of course, I've used an InDesign "current page number marker" on parent pages (no script).

Quickly done!
