Multiple Images shifted to gutter or edge of page

I am working on  3 large InDesign files that are linked by a Book file. I am not sure what happened, but many images on multiple pages were either shifted into the gutter or to the edge of the page. For example, I had an image where I placed near the gutter but still in the safe zone. Sometime later the image was shifted where  the edge of the image was flush with the edge of the document page.

This is very frustrating. Had to go through the all 3 documents and to fix all of this.  I made the mistake of upgrading Indesign. I should have waited until my major project was done.  Also I did have to move pages around or add new pages.But still why would it shift individual images around. Can't Indesign just let me keep my images where I placed them? I have print outs and previous versions where the images were where they should have been.

Has this happened to anyone?
