Multiple InDesign Features Greyed Out (Undo, Redo, Group, Paste in Place) on MacBook with 2026 Version

I am running Creative Suite 2026 on a new Mac Book and am having problems with InDesign features being grayed out. Like the undo and redo functions are greyed out, as is paste in place. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also the ‘group’ and ‘ungroup’ features are greyed out. I can’t figure out how to do a screen grab of a drop down menu.

Thank you. Alison Kennedy

    Hi @BigAL911,

Just wanted to check in with you. Has the issue been resolved after trying the suggestions shared by the experts, or are you still experiencing the same behavior?

If it’s still happening, could you please share a bit more detail like your macOS version, the exact InDesign version (like 21.3, 21.2 or any other), whether this happens with all files or specific ones.

Looking forward to your update to assist you further.

    Abhishek

Patch up to 21.3 using the CC App.

Problems within the interface can often be fixed by deleting your InDesign cache files. This is not the same as deleting preferences.

To delete cache files on a Mac:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s cache files are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire folder “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the InDesign cache folder completely leads to a lasting change.

Are InDesign and your operating system fully updated?
