mysterious dictionary change

I want to find an answer for my issue: The dictionary for my spell check mysteriously changes to "German" halfway through my document. and YES I have checked my preferences and it is "English".

Just figured it out by looking at other help sites.  I didn't realize that "characters" can be linked with a particular language.  I had to slowly spellcheck the document to find out where the dictionary changed occured.  Once I found it, I selected the txt and  hit "Type &Tables" in Windows; then "Character" and then change the language to "English" or whatever language you want.
