I urgently need some help. My deadline is today, and I can’t open the InDesign file. Can anyone help me open the file?

    Hi @dinamo_zagreb0355,

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, especially with such an important deadline.

I’m checking the file with our InDesign product team to see if there’s any possibility of recovering the document or its contents. I’ll update you here as soon as I have more information regarding the chances of recovery.

For important projects going forward, it’s also a good practice to save incremental versions of your document (for example, Project_v01, Project_v02, etc.) rather than continually overwriting a single file. Keeping an additional backup on a cloud service with version history or another drive can also be very helpful if a document becomes damaged. For critical projects, periodically exporting an IDML copy provides another version that may be useful for recovery.

I’ll keep you posted on what we find with this file.

    Abhishek

Just a note: some documents require overwriting saving to the same file throughout versions, such as chapters in a book. For those, I create a zip file of the entire folder before starting the next round of changes and name it _v1.zip, _v2, zip, etc.

Same. Cannot open. Tried using InDesign 2026 release version (21.6.0.57) and 2027 beta (22.0.0.72).

I tried and it failed, too. I’m afraid the file is pretty much toast.

As Dave mentioned, if you saved it in Dropbox, OneDrive or any other cloud service that keeps incremental backups, try to roll it back. If not, you just learned why you should.

    I’m getting this dialog box:

When I click Continue, it tries to repair the document but fails.

What is the error, if any, you are getting?

Hopefully you keep increment backups. If you saved it to the cloud, look for archived older versions.
