Question

"No Access to Review" Issue when multiple designers are updating same file

I work on a team of 3 designers and there are many instances when we need to access and make updates to someone else’s files. It looks like if someone other than the original owner of the document is trying to update the "Share" link a new InDesign file needs to be created. Is there any work around for this? The attached screenshot shows the error message we receive. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

A better solution is to nominate 1 person of the 3 to be the person to upload a new Share for Review. Saving as IDML is no different than save-as to a new file name in this scenario. You still have the essential challenge of version control. Who gets to over-write whom? How do you track that? Collegial cooperation is still necessary with your idea.

 

BTW, a new feature for InDesign is Invite to Edit (beta). As I understand it, it requires storing the file in the cloud. At the moment, it doesn't appear to support linked images placed in the page. Has anyone had good success with this new feature?

    For anyone else having this issue (I just did and came searching for an answer), save your file as an idml and reopen and save back over your troublesome file. I had files 'duplicated' from another team member and couldn't share for review, idml worked for me.

    InDesign is not a multi-user application. Only one person can be working a file at a time. When working on the file, you'll have to communicate with the other users and let them know you currently have access.
