Number list issues

Hi,

I have an issue where my number list will restart again after adding table and images.

I have checked that restart numbering has not been clicked and also checked the paragraphs styles that it has not been told to start again.

The only work around I have found so far is to add the entire text layout in and then add images and tables. However, this is not workable as some of our documents reach hundreds of pages and is constantly being updated.

Has anyone any idea what might be causing the lists to restart?

Thanks in advance

From the description you've provided, it seems like everything is set up correctly for the numbering.

For the tables and images paragraphs, the list type should be None. For the numbered list paragraphs, list type should be Numbers and Mode Continue from Previous Number. It sounds like that is how you have the paragraphs set up, but you could double-click the table and image paragraphs.

If you have unthreaded frames, you can't use the default numbered list. You'll need to set up a custom numbered list in order to get sequential numbering.

Thank you everyone for your advice, it was to do with threaded frames.

It would seem when adding content the text frame had become unthreaded. After re-applying the master pages and pasting content back in it is now working again.

Hi

could you edit your post and add a screenshot of your layout in Normal view, with hidden characters displayed?

thanks

Thanks for your reply, however, that is a little tricky to do, our document is very restircted and looking at it I do not really know the best way to show you that whilst keeping the content hidden yet still being able to show you hidden characters etc, sorry.

I understand, but if text is the confidential part, you can just change it by a fake one...

What I would like to see is basically the structure of the document... Do you work with multiple frames? are they threaded? Are your tables part of the text flow, are the images anchored, and so on... Otherwise it's rather difficult to advise.
