Numbering causing slow document

Hi everyone,

I have a document which is running incredibly slow. I believe this is something to do with the numbering i have set up as turning it off solves the problem.

I am using three different lists for document numbering, figure numbering and table numbering.

The document numbering seems to works fine, however the figure numbering looks like its trying to constantly update because text frames with that style applied are constantly flashing.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

I have another document I did a long time ago using a similar numbering system which is working perfectly fine.

Thanks for everyones suggestions. I think i've finally solved this.

It appears the issue was caused by the text frame auto size options on my caption object style. I had this set to 'height and width'. Changing it to width only fixed the problem and the document is now running smoothly.

Adobe can you please look into this bug.

Just a guess, but it sounds like it might be a circular reference issue. You might run a test with a blank document and just a few figures to see if they still flash. By no means is this comment a solution but more like a possible troubleshooting path.

Thanks for the response.

I've copied a whole bunch of the figures into a new document and they seem to work fine. They're not flashing and the document is not lagging.

Some more info which might help - the preflight status is constantly checking. If I turn the numbering off in the paragraph style, the preflight stops checking and the document works fine.

Hi Ian,

In this case, I would suggest creating a new paragraph style with numbering and delete the older one.
