This is a terrible decision. I have a 6K Dell Display, and well enough memory to run it, yet InDesign must now run at abysmal speed because my system is overqualified? Or, because it isn't an Apple Monitor, I'm being penalized? I bought a laptop to do layout in clamshell mode on a giant screen- and this breaks Indesign?

This isn't a design feature, this is capricious lack of respect for your professional customers- without GPU acceleration to ANY monitor, InDesign is all but useless.

If you're having issues with speed please start a new thread with full details of your operating system and version of InDesign.

    Hi edfeldt,

To use GPU Performance, your Mac should have a minimum of 1024 MB of VRAM (2 GB recommended), and your computer must support OpenGL version 4.0 or greater.

    Supported machines

    •     iMac 4K
    •     iMac 5K
    •     MacBook Pro Retina
    •     Mac Pro connected to a HiDPI monitor
    •     Mac mini connected to a HiDPI monitor

To check for VRAM value, choose Mac > About This Mac (Graphics information).

To find out if your computer supports the required OpenGL version (4.0 or later), see this Mac computers that use OpenCL and OpenGL graphics - Apple Support

Kindly update the discussion if you need further assistance with it.

    Thanks,

    Srishti

Ich have the same Problem with my MacBook Pro 2017 15" and a GPU AMD Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB. InDesign says: “Compatible GPU and monitor found.” But the button to turn the GPU-Power is grayed out. Any hint?

Another question, why is the option only active if you have a HiDPI-display active at the MacBook Pro? If i use the MacBook in close-lid-mode, and a “only full-HD” display connected, InDesign doesn’t find a compatible monitor and the GPU-acceleration is off. Does GPU-acceleration works only with HiDPI-displays?
