Object paragraph styles not applying

Hi!

So I've set up an object style and a bunch of paragraph styles which all follow on from each other using "Next Style".

I have a text box on each page on a multi-page document and the object style applied to it. When I was testing this I pasted text into the text boxes of 3 pages and I just had to clear overrides on the object style for all the paragraph styles to be applied.

However, after I pasted about 150 pages worth of text in, the object style is not applying the paragraph styles and there is apparently no override. I did use the "clear all overrides" script and I'm wondering if that messed something up? Or maybe there is a bug/glitch or something? Any way to fix this without having to click into every single text box, select all and apply the first style then next style?

Is the first paragraph (start) style you use selected in the Object style and is the 'use next style' ticked in the Object style?

Create one or more Paragraph styles.
If you want to have sequential styles applied (such as heading, then subhead, then text) be sure to set the Next Style option appropriately in each style (as previously explained).
Create or edit an Object style.
On the left, click on Paragraph Styles.
From the Paragraph Styles menu choose the style you want to apply. If you want to apply multiple sequential styles, choose the first style and then check on Apply Next Style. (InDesign uses the info in each paragraph style to know which styles come next.)

Hello! Thanks for your reply! That's exactly what I have set up, with the next style check box ticked and everything.

It was working exactly as it should have done when I tested it with a couple of pages but as soon as I had pasted all 175 pages in it isn't working at all.

When I tested it, after inoasted the text in, I would have to clear overrides from the object style and all the correct styles would apply.

So when I had pasted all 175 pages worth of text on to their pages, I used the clear all overrides script from the script panel, as opposed to clicking on every page/text box and clearing overrides.

But it didn't work. It says there are no overrides but the styles are not applied. So I now have to double click on every text box to go into it, select all the text and then apply the first style with next style and it flows all the styles as it's meant to.

But that defeated the point of putting it into the object style, and not having to click on and apply everything manually haha.

So it seems like something in the script messed it up and there's some sort of bug because it's saying there are no overrides but the styles that should be applied are not, which would suggest overrides.

Or I've done something wrong but that doesn't seem to be the case given the fact it was working originally, and it's set up as you've described too. 😕😕

I'm not sure I understand your workflow??

Why do you need ObjectStyle to apply ParaStyle in your "main" text?

You should just use ParaStyles.

If you want to reset local overrides - in the "main" text - you should put text cursor inside the text, click Ctrl+A - Select All - then use Para Styles panel to clear overrides.

And if you want to control formatting of the "text containers" - TextFrames of your "main" text - you should create TextFrame(s) on the MasterSpread(s) , apply ObjectStyle to it(them) - and then load your "main" text into it on a 1st page.
