Odd issue coming up in InDesign with Sarvatrik Latin Medium SemiBold & Bold - OpenType Variable Bug?

So this issue is something that I have never come across before. 

When using the font Sarvatrik Latin VF in InDesign specifically, the font fails to adhere to the OpenType Variable on most of the letters (see attachments). Note that this font is through Adobe Fonts, so there's no third party interference.

Some things that I've tried:

• Copying and directly pasting the textbox into Illustrator and photoshop, resulting in the font returning to normal (this means that it has to be InDesign specific, no?)

• Changing the settings in the OpenType Variable font

• Checking to see if the font has any effects added

• Tried using a direct color background on the textbox

Nothing will get this font to function how it should?
