Old/70's/80's printed poster/paper look help.

Question

I am trying to achieve a general subtle printed look for a poster im making for a club night im putting on.

Generally im not sure what to call the look and perhaps id be better with illustrator but im not as familiar with it as PS.

It is a sort of printed look, a very subtle, not-that-sharp, slightly grainy, maybe slightly dusty, perhaps a few minor creases, slightly faded look like the examples

below:

Rosmarie tissi in Music 2 - on this one, notice the faded look around the black areas, how?

whats the best way to go about this? for example with the image of the cityscape i want to put text over it but it obviously stands out because it's quite pristine. how could i make it seem more like the text was on the picture originally?

I understand im probably being quite vague but hopefully you guys can help me out!

I understand what you are asking. The best way to achieve that look and feel is Photoshop Filters and layer effects. Illustrator has some transparency and opacity abilities, but like Szalam suggests, you want to "age" the image. Take a look at Gaussian Blur and Noise in Photoshop.
