Ongoing Issues with PDF Exports Despite Up-to-Date InDesign and Illustrator

Dear Adobe Support Team,

I am writing to express my frustration and concern regarding the persistent issues I am experiencing with exporting PDFs from both Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. Despite ensuring that I am using the latest versions of these applications, I continue to encounter significant problems that are severely impacting my workflow.

As a professional who relies on Adobe’s software for my day-to-day work, I expect a high level of performance, particularly given the premium cost of the Creative Cloud subscription. However, the recurring issues with basic functionalities like PDF export—an essential feature for any design professional—are making it increasingly difficult to justify the ongoing expense.

Specifically, I have experienced:

  • Failed or incorrect PDF exports from InDesign, even with relatively straightforward documents.
  • Significant slowdowns and occasional crashes during the export process in both Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Persistent issues despite following recommended troubleshooting steps, such as resetting preferences and exporting in smaller sections.

I have spent considerable time reading through numerous threads on Adobe’s Help Center, where many other users have reported similar problems. While some workarounds have been suggested, they do not provide a permanent solution and often add unnecessary complexity to the workflow. It is disheartening to see that such fundamental issues remain unresolved, especially when they directly impact the usability of the software.

The cost-quality balance of Adobe’s products has felt increasingly off lately. For a product that is part of a subscription model, where updates and stability should be guaranteed, this situation is unacceptable. I am not alone in facing these issues, as many other users have voiced similar frustrations, yet the solutions provided seem to be temporary or ineffective.

I urge Adobe to prioritize fixing these core functionalities to ensure that professionals like myself can continue to rely on your software for our work. The current state of affairs leaves much to be desired, and I hope to see improvements that justify the cost of the subscription.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and hope to see a resolution soon.

Sincerely,

Nikolai Zauber

Hi @nikolaidesign , Also, are the Export issues document specific? Do you have a problem with newly created documents?

What are the workarounds that add complexity?

Thank you for your questions and your willingness to help.

To clarify, the export issues I’ve encountered are not limited to specific documents. They occur with both newly created documents and those that have been worked on across different versions of the software. This suggests that the problem is more widespread rather than being isolated to particular files.

Regarding the workarounds, they often involve steps such as exporting in smaller sections, isolating problematic pages or elements, and even reverting to older versions of the software. While these can sometimes resolve immediate issues, they introduce additional steps into my workflow, making it more cumbersome and time-consuming. My main concern is that these solutions feel more like temporary fixes rather than addressing the root causes of the problems.

I appreciate your support, but I’m really hoping for a more permanent solution from Adobe that eliminates the need for these workarounds altogether.

Thank you again for your time and assistance.

Can you package and share an example?

but I’m really hoping for a more permanent solution from Adobe

If the problem is a bug and not limited to specific document (or network), you have a better chance of Adobe seeing your post here:

What version of InDesign? What operating system? How much RAM?

Thank you for your prompt response. To answer your questions, I'm using the latest versions of both InDesign and Illustrator, with a system running on Apple M2 Max, 64 GB RAM, and macOS Sonoma 14.6.1.

However, I want to clarify that my message was not about a specific technical glitch but rather to express my broader frustration with the recurring issues many users, including myself, are experiencing with PDF exports. I’ve seen numerous threads where others have reported similar problems, so my concern is more about the overall reliability and quality balance of the software, given the cost of the subscription.

I appreciate your willingness to assist, but my intention is to convey this feedback to Adobe in the hopes that they can address these ongoing issues more comprehensively.

Thank you again for your time.
