InDesign Menu:

File - Open Recent - opens wrong file.

App restart doesn't fix.

Once the "wrong" file is opened it becomes the most recent file in the open recent file list.

You can delete/rebuild the list by editing the File Handling setting for recent files (set it to 0) with nothing open, restart InDesign and reset to the number you want to include, and then rebuild the list as you use File > Open to navigate to the files you really want.

What are your InDesign and operating system versions?

 

What specifically is "wrong" with the file? Is it a totally different file from the one you select (different name and location), or an identically named file in a different location, or something else?
