Optimise them how? What are you changing?

For making edits to photos I'd do it in Photoshop and set it up as an action. 

 

Indesign only Places the image and shows the image at it's Effective Resolution.

Indesign is not a photo editor/optimiser. But if you tell us more what you're doing that would help point you in the right direction, InDesign or another method.
