Question

Option+Drag in the Pages window stopps copying randomly

Every now and then when I Option+Drag in the Pages window it dosn't copy but just moves. And I usually end up overwirting something that I meant to be on a copy of before I notice.

A restart seems to return things to normal but is very frustrating.

Anyone else getting this? Any solutions?

Thanks!

N.

And six months later and it's doing it again. Wish I had any clue as to what's causing it... very frustrating.

The restart! She does nothing!

Now it's won't let me drag+option copy even on a fresh restart.

It was happening to me recently - IT installed a new anti-virus called WebRoot.

There's an option in the WebRoot software called "Pause Keyboard Shortcuts" - or something like that.

It disables all my modifier keys across all apps - I have to restore the preference everytime I restart the computer - and yes sometimes I forget.

Sounds like a RAM issue. Quitting Indesign and relaunching is freeing up some RAM.

Before we get into that - how much RAM do you have?

It might not be exactly what you're after.

-------

You can drag the page down to the plus symbol and it duplicates it and puts it at the end of the document. You can then move the pages into position.

It could be a bug

Mac mini m1, with 16 gigs. Shouldn't be strained to the point of that kind of error. I did have a lot of other things open, so was being pushed, but still...

Ah right it could be a Mac M1 bug - I don't really know to be honest. 16gb should be plenty.

The fact it resets to normal behaviour on quit and restart the app suggests to me a memory issue. But as you say, you had a lot of things open. So it's possible.

Best thing to try might be to work this with nothing else open from a fresh computer reboot - and see if the issue crops up again.

But without more info it's hard to direct you any further.
