Question

Organizing multiple PDF pages, 2 at a time, for hundreds of records

Hi,

I will have a situation where there will be 3 PDFs of cards. The card takes up 2 pages as a PDF spread, the first being the outside of the card, the second the inside.

The outside and inside of the card can have a marking corresponding to a letter and number, say "1P, 2P, 3P, 4P, 5P" on the front and back. I wouldn't try to do the request here using different letters too.

However, there's a randomization within the 3 batches of PDFs, so instead of it being 1P, 2P, 3P for each front and back of the card, it's more like "1P, 3P, 7P, 8P", with a second PDF as "2P, 4P, 6P" and a third with "5P, 9P, 10P".

How can we merge these so eventually the order is "1P, 2P, 3P, 4P, 5P" on one PDF, and also so it's still the outside of the card and the inside of the card next to each other?

Thanks!

@Grant381014189fc7 you haven't received any help yet and I think it's because your description isn't enough to go on.

Could you describe the steps that you'd like a hypothetical script to perform? Every step, not just some. For example: does the script need to work out the size of the pdfs? If so it needs to locate the pdfs, load them into a temporary document and measure the frame sizes, then create a new document the right size, then create pages to accomodate all the pdfs, then sort them and then import the pdf(s) in that order.

No-one will be able to help without sample documents to go on, so you should upload them, along with the expected final output (an .indd I assume).

Hi @m1b , thanks for the clarifications here - I don't know how to do scripting myself. Is scripting the only way to get this reorganized? The general goal is just to reorganize pages by a numbering system, and there being 2 pages at a time. It would be 3 total PDFs merged into 1 and rearranged.

@Grant381014189fc7 I don't know of anyway except by scripting. There are helpful scripters here on the forum that might be willing to help. But your description is still too vague. Are you saying that you have a document with multiple two-page spreads, each with a pdf page graphic frame, and the filenames of the graphic files have the "1P", "5P" etc? and you need the spreads ordered within the document? That is doable with a script, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what you mean.
