Question

OVERLY-LARGE PDF EX

Why has InDesign suddenly began to export overly-large interactive pdfs? I've been attempting to export a 23MB InDesign file to interactive pdf, but the lowest it can go is 9.3MB! Before you ask, I do know what i'm doing and i'm very familiar with the process - i've been doing it for years. Interestingly, i've run a side-by-side test with an older InDesgin document of the same size and the older doc compressed as it should (2.5MB). I then ran through the exact same process with the more recent doc and the resulting pdf is way too big.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The size of the INDD has absolutely zero to do with the size of the PDF. BTW, I don't consider a 9MB file at all large and without seeing the file and the linked graphics beyond what Rob has already posted there's no much any of us can do but guess.

Hi @grahamjp140459 , Could be from placed vector files, which don’t compress, or excess metadata in placed files. Check the PDF’s Audit space usage in AcrobatPro:
