Overprint issue on MathType equation in InDesign

Hi,

I have an InDesign document with Black color MathType equations placed over the colored background frame. When I turn off black color in seperation, MathType eps shows as white text instead of hiding.

Please give any solution, alternatively is there any option in Mathtype for overprint the black text.

Thanks and Regards,

Balaji

By default [Black] swatch is set to overprint, which is what you want to happen for most text. Your [Black] overprint preference is set in the Appearance of Black Preferences.

If you've made a black swatch, or imported one, it will knockout unless you select the text and set it to Overprint in the Attributes panel. You could delete a black swatch and replace it with [Black] to get a global overprint.

    Hi, rajeshg98203303

yes, I think you gave the solution.

This Black comes from MathType EPS files.

So InDesign's [Black] is not applied.

Another solution would be to preflight an exported PDF with Acrobat Pro and apply "overprint" to every text up to a specific size that comes with Black 100%.

The MathType EPS could also be using an RGB black or a CMYK built black rather than 100%K. Depending upon the color management settings, it could be converting the EPS' colors to something that isn't standard.

But I believe the solution is what is stated above: set the graphic to overprint, which is what all forms of black should do on a color background. (Usually.)

Because is it set to Knock Out instead of Overprint.

    Hi,

It is not exactly what happens. The white MathType that you see is where InDesign 'knocked out' (translate 'cut-out') your background colour so the MathType will print on white paper and not on top of the coloured background. This is to avoid the 2 colours to mix, which means the black would not be really black and the edges of the MathType might get a bit blurry.

Can you explain why you need to turn off the black in separation? If you are still in InDesign, you can turn off the overprint option from the View Menu to see if that makes a difference. Be careful, that would be for effect on your screen. It will not affect how you export to pdf or print directly from InDesign. The 'behaviour' of the colours is set in the export or print panels.
