Question

Package command not showing on wide screen

I use two monitors, and the package command (under File) disappears when InDesign is on the wider screen - however the command appears again if I move to the slightly smaller scren / monitor.  Can anyone shed any light on why this would happen?

Hi @claire.w28,

Thanks for bringing this up. To help understand what's happening here, could you please confirm the exact version of InDesign you're using along with your OS details?

It would also be helpful to know whether you're expanding the InDesign window across both monitors at the same time, or if the issue occurs when InDesign is maximized on one specific wide monitor. If possible, please share a screenshot showing the File menu when the app is on the wider screen, so we have a clearer reference.

Looking forward to your update.

Hi Abhishek,
Thanks for your reply.
I am using InDesign 2025 (20.5.1 x64) - I was running the latest 2026
version but read that there were bugs with packaging, so went back to a
2025 version. OS is Windows 11.
I'm not expanding InDesign across both monitors at the same time - the
issue occurs when InDesign is maximised in one specific monitor (the
larger, newer wide screen). Here is a snip of the File pull down menu when
maximised on the smaller monitor (left and then when maximised on the
larger monitor (right):

All files, links etc are on a local hard drive, not cloud based.
Appreciate your advice!

Hi @claire.w28,

Thanks for the information. Just to clarify, when you say the Package option disappears, do you mean it's completely missing from the File menu or does it appear but is greyed out? As a quick add-on, the Package option is only available for documents that are saved locally and not to a cloud location.

Clearing that, could you also let me know if you're using a custom workspace when you see this behavior, or if it happens the same way in the default workspaces like Advanced or Essentials? It would be helpful to try switching to a default workspace and check once.

If the issue still shows up, please try manually resetting InDesign preferences by following the steps in this HelpX video and then test again: https://adobe.ly/45Kez2m

Let me know what you observe after trying this.
