Question

Package doesn't change the path of links

Hi,

When packaging an Indesign file with links included, should the new file have links to the new path?

I’m not seeing this recently when packaging.

    Hi @Janne2596680603pr,

    Thanks for reaching out.

I tested this on InDesign 21.4.1 on Windows 11, and on my end the packaged document correctly updated the links to the packaged Links folder.

Could you please confirm whether "Update Graphic Links In Package" was enabled during File > Package? This option updates the document's links to the packaged location. You can refer to the documentation here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/desktop/print/preflight/package-files-for-output.html.

Also, please confirm that you're opening the packaged .indd file from inside the package folder, not the original document. Could you also let us know where the original linked assets are stored (local drive, network/server, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.)?

Finally, could you clarify what you mean by "the path doesn't change"? Does the Links panel still show the original path, or are the links actually resolving to the original files instead of the packaged Links folder? If possible, please share your InDesign version, OS version, and a short screen recording showing the Package dialog (including the selected options), opening the packaged document, and the Links panel displaying the paths. This will help us investigate further.

    Looking forward to hearing back.

    Abhishek
