Page 1 of X in summary

Hello everybody!

I've created an indesign document, splitted in sections.
In the summary the client doesn't want to see the section prefix followed by page number instead wants the section's page number followed by the section's last page number.

Can you please help me?

Thank you in advance!!

There may be scripts that can auto-generate your "X of Y" page numbering, but I'd suggest the fastest way to do this now is to just do it manually.Especially if it's a one-time job.

This will be easier if you created each section as a separate document and used InDesign's book functions to combine them into a single compilation, but if you haven't all is not lost.

If you have multiple "sections" in one InDesign document file, just go to the first page of each section and use the Layout>Numbering and Sections... menu command. When the New Section dialog box appears, it will automatically restart page numbering if you click the Start Page numbering at: radio button and accept the default setting of 1 in the edit box. Just click the OK button andf you'll have the first part of your compound page numbering set up.

After you've set up the page numbering in your Parent Page(s) using the Type>Insert Special Character>Markers>Current Page Number menu command and type in Page [marker] of X after the marker, you'll get the correct page number in your document page(s) showing as Page [page number] of X.

From there, get your Text tool, go to each document page, move over the compound page number and Ctrl+Shift+double-click (PC) or Cmd+Shift+double-click (Mac) to 1) lift the type element from the parent page and 2) place your text cursor inside the type element to change the X to the appropriate number of pages in each section and read Page [current page#] of [total number of pages in that section] for each of your document pages.

The procedure above seems rather intricate, but after you do this a couple of times, you'll establish a quick rhythm to keep making this happen for your client to their ultimate satisfaction.

Hope this helps,
