Page Tool Modifies Pasteboard Size?

Noticing in our workflows that anyone altering the page size of documents with the Page Tool rather than under the Document Setup, will forever "break" the file so that future changes to the page size under Document Setup (Option+Command+P) alters the pasteboard and not the document's page itself.

Am I missing a check box or is this a bug? Using ID 18.x on BigSur/Catalina

I'm not sure I'd call it a bug. Almost any element that is modified with a spot override is afterwards "outside" the more global adjustments. Sometimes there's a flag (the style + marker) or other indicator, and sometimes there's a global "reset everything" option, but some changes are all but one-way.

I am not sure how any kind of undo or global reset would work with a Page tool change; page size and layout is so fundamental to everything that follows that forcing the change would/could/might cause disastrous effects.

A better flag or warning or indicator might be a good thing, though, just to prevent this kind of confusion.

But that's one reason I avoid using the Page tool except in very selective situations. It's never really seemed like a... good idea.

I kind of figured. We have large libraries of documents where the popular method was to modify page sizes with the page tool rather than just going to the document settings. Our bleeds and margins on these files are essentially inaccessible/destroyed. Kind of a pain.

One or more scripts might be able to help clean up such docs without leaving too much mess to fix. (Not a script guy,  but if no one checks in on that aspect, you might make a new post focusing on that solution.)
