Pages appear to randomly get inserted into my spread--against my will.

I don't know why, but random pages are inserting themselves into my spread. Sometimes at the end of the spread, sometimes not. Recently, I deleted a text box, and three pages appeared. But it's happened for other reasons.

You should also note the brackets around the numbers for spread 30-31. They indicate page shuffling for that spread is disabled which may or may not be what you intend.

      Thanks Dave. I need to turn the Smart Text Reflow off, I'll bet. I'm new to laying out books, so I'll have more questions in the future.

      I don't think this is your issue but these Book settings can also insert blank pages:
