Question

Paper-based flip book-style animation

Hello all. Our team creates hardcopy training manuals. They are usually about 200-300 pages in length. We'd like to insert a flip-book style animation about the size of a postage stamp near the corner of the page - so that when a reader flips through the hardcopy pages each individual graphic will appear as part of an animation sequence. Our issue is how to place each graphic near the edge of each page. We can't seem to get close enough because of the footer. Any suggestions? We'd appreciate any guidance!

Also, we know this will be somewhat time intensive. If anyone knows how to quickly cut and paste each individual image into an InDesign file, that would be a bonus. Thank you!

Hi Lennya:

Is your footer in the way? Can you just move it up a bit? (A screen shot would help us to see what you are up against.) InDesign doesn't care how close you place an image to the page edge—but it can impact printing on in-house equipment.

As for adding the images rapidly, one easy option is to add an empty graphic frame to the master pages, then use File > Place to select all the images. Once loaded, you can quickly drop one off on each right hand page. (Remember that placing images is preferred over pasting.)

Hi Barb,

one could add the frame for the images on the master on its own layer. Perhaps on top of the layer that is holding the footer frames. When placing the images on the document pages one could hide all other layers or lock them.
